Iyengar Yoga is a total health discipline based on the practice of yoga poses (asanas) and breath control (pranayama). This method emphasizes proper alignment, making the practice safe, intelligent, and challenging. Practicing yoga with true alignment focuses the mind and develops balance, strength, and flexibility in the body.
Iyengar Yoga is regarded as the most sophisticated style of yoga today, and is praised for its ability to help specific medical problems, both structural and organic.
Yoga Master BKS Iyengar was born in India in 1918. At the age of 14 he had suffered malaria, typhoid, and tuberculosis; doctors said he would not live to see 20. His story of transformation through Yoga is epic. Today Mr. Iyengar is 90 years old. He lives in Pune, India where he practices and teaches daily. He is the author of 18 books on Yoga, including the classics "Light on Yoga" and "Light on Pranayama".
Christian is one of those rare examples of a person who lives his practice. As a teacher, he is knowledgeable about the human body, gives clear instruction, and accepts all levels of ability. When I practice with Christian I know I will always leave with a deeper awareness of myself and how I inhabit my body.
